In lieu of one single cake that might not offer something for everyone, try creating a candy bar with an assortment of goodies to ensure that every sweet tooth is satisfied.
Don’t worry- for those who still love the element of tradition, you can still have your cake and eat it too! (literally). If you have your heart set on a beautiful cake, make it the focal point of your candy bar and build treats around it. Trust me, your guests will thank you for it!
Lastly, don’t forget that it’s all about the presentation! To create an elegant feel, use some apothecaries, cake stands, and different platters to make the desserts pop. Flowers, candles, and lighting are all elements that can be added to make your candy bar stand out.

Wanna know the secret behind a magazine worthy wedding set up? What it takes to make your wedding breathtakingly swoon worthy? What will have your guests talking about your wedding for days and days? It’s all about going the extra mile to take your decorative details to unexpected levels of pretty. A table overhang that perfectly frames a table or setup in a wonderfully whimsical way is a guaranteed way to achieve that magazine wow factor every single time. I may be biased though since I’ve got just a bit of a personal obsession with them. So here are a few examples to plead my case. You be the judge!
Finding the right venue for your big day can be a difficult and time-consuming task. But in San Diego County, it is downright overwhelming! Our fair metropolis is considered a top wedding destination for both residents and out-of-towners because there are so many beautiful locales for exchanging vows—from the mountains to the valleys to the beach, and everywhere in between.
While on your venue hunt, remember these tips to narrow your search and ensure you choose the venue that is perfect for you:
Size matters, and so does style!
If you’re planning a rustic, vintage-chic wedding, then a modern restaurant with sleek lines in downtown is probably not for you. If you have a flair for the dramatic and dream of getting married on stage, then check out your local theaters! Bottom line: Know your style and work with it—not against it. If you pick a place that already has the feel or look you are going for, then it will be that much easier (and less costly!) to bring your wedding day vision to life.
All-inclusive has its perks
When it comes to wedding planning, there are so many decisions to make. Selecting a venue that not only provides the backdrop for your ceremony and reception but also includes catering, rentals, lighting, getting-ready rooms, an onsite coordinator, etc. can drastically cut down your to-do list, your stress levels, and help keep your overall budget in check. (It’s tempting to just rent a space and build a wedding from the ground up, but bringing everything in yourself adds up quickly!)
Location, location, location
While getting hitched and throwing a smashing party in the same place is ideal, it’s not always possible. If your ceremony will take place in your home church, for example, try to pick a reception location that is close by so your guests aren’t schlepping many miles (or hours) to be able to toast to you. Some may simply choose not to make the drive. But you also don’t want people getting lost, stuck in traffic (talk about a buzz-kill) or missing dinner.
Prioritize—and get ready for a reality check
While you want to find the perfect venue, you also must realize that the best venue for your wedding may not be “perfect.” (Unless, perhaps, you have an endless budget!) This is where setting priorities and a willingness to compromise—gasp!—is key. The color of the ballroom’s carpet or walls doesn’t match your wedding palette? Uplighting can work wonders to mask and distract. Hate the white folding chairs that come with your wedding package? Most venues will let you rent the ones you love from an outside company. Don’t let small, surmountable issues get in the way of saying "I do" to a really great space.
So yes, creating the “perfect” wedding can be a daunting task, but with the right venue as the foundation and a team of trusted vendors, your big day can truly be all you envisioned and more.
