How to Save Money
Though it's true you can register for anything, it's wise to consider the budgets of the people who will buy your gifts. Mix things up by registering for items in a wide range of prices (lower-priced items can serve as shower gifts). Guideline to keep in mind: Register for one $50-$100 gift for each couple you invite.
Seek out perks
To choose among multiple retailers that offer similar goods, go with the one that offers the best prices or most perks (such as discounts when you go to complete your registry). Some registries offer to send an e-mail announcement to your guests telling them where you are registered. We advise against it. Guests can get details of your registry when they specifically request it or by those hosting your shower.
When you're registering for items, think about how long you'll use them and if they fit in with any living-space changes you see on your horizon.
Keep in mind that many items such as linens and home décor is seasonal and may not be available for purchase when guests are shopping for your wedding gift. Plan on updating your registry regularly.
If you choose mixing bowls and a spatula, for example, also register for the pan in which to bake the cake. Having only some of the essentials will be frustrating and expensive in the long run.
Don't register for a high-tech gadget just because it's cool. Choose only items that you will truly use.
The long haul
Choose neutral colors like black, white, gray, brown, or tan for items that will fit in with your decor for years to come. You can always add special accessories to tailor the look.
Mix and match
For a more user-friendly china collection, select pricey serving pieces that you can display and use with less-pricey, dishwasher-safe items.
